HAGHIRIAN ART FOUNDATION RESIDENCY FOR JAPANESE ARTISTS IN GRAZ

The Graz Artist-in-Residence Program offers a one-month residency in Graz, Austria, to promising Japanese artists between the ages of 30 and 40 who are in the process of establishing their professional careers.

This initiative, led by the Haghirian Art Foundation, aims to support Japanese contemporary artists by giving them the space, time, and international exposure to deepen their artistic practice and connect with the European art world.

This program is not a scholarship, but a professional development residency designed to nurture talent and create meaningful international networks.

Residency Details

  • Round-trip airfare between Japan and Graz, Austria

  • One-month residency with studio space and accommodation in central Graz

  • On-site orientation and personal support from the Foundation during the stay

  • Active promotion of the artist’s work through the Foundation’s online channels, newsletters, and Austrian partners

  • Networking and visibility opportunities with local artists, curators, and institutions

  • Potential for artist talks, open studios, or small-scale presentations (depending on timing and interest)

Mission

To foster long-term cultural exchange and international visibility for emerging Japanese artists, helping them bridge into the European art scene while promoting creative dialogue between Japan and Austria.

Who Can Apply

  • Japanese visual artists (any medium)

  • Aged between 30 and 40

  • With a strong exhibition history in Japan and/or internationally

  • Demonstrating readiness to engage in artistic work abroad

  • Comfortable with independent work and intercultural environments
